Terror at Orlando Nightclub: 50 Dead, 53 Injured

By: Gunny

Early Saturday morning an Orlando LGBT nightclub (Pulse) was the place of yet another deadly American shooting.  It was deadliest attack on US soil since 9/11.  There are 50 people confirmed dead including the shooter, and another 53 hospitalized.

The nightclub was at capacity when Omar Mateen entered in and started opening fire on the patrons of the club around 2 AM.  It turned into a hostage situation before SWAT and Orlando police could get into the building and kill Mateen.  After it was all said and done, the casualties originally thought to be in the 20’s reached the number 50.

Mateen, a US citizen, is of Afghan descent but it remains to be seen if religion had anything to do with it.  It is believed it was an anti-gay motive rather than religious. Even though I believe the two are completely tied together.

Here at the PUP List we like to joke and make satirical articles but this is not the time clearly.  This makes me sick to my stomach that someone can hate people this much without even knowing them, based solely on sexual preference.  This man is a coward, piece of shit scumbag.  In my opinion, religion had everything to do with it, because this man’s religion calls for the killing of homosexuals and it calls for the subjugation of women. These people love death more than we love to live, and as I’ve seen it put, it’s a virus that won’t be stopped.

This being the worst mass shooting in history is staggering, but the problem is nothing will change.  I for one believe that as a country we shouldn’t stand for our citizens to be judged and then murdered whether it was a US citizen or a terrorist.  Now, I’m not a political person and I don’t have a political mind, but clearly we’re the only country where this happens regularly and nothing changes. I’m not going to give ideas for change or anything like that because I don’t know what needs to be changed…but something does, that I think we all know.

This will be on everyone’s mind for a couple more days on twitter then it will vanish, as does everything else.  For those couple of days people will make this about themselves and the victims will be remembered as the victims of a shooting rather than for whom they really were.  The media will cover the mass shooter and his motives more than the victims, making everyone hop on their political high horses on to aim anger at the media. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I’m not saying I’m going to do anything, because I don’t know what to do, I’m just explaining it how it is. I wish I could do something, but I don’t know what to do. Maybe that’s the problem, no one knows what to do when something like this happens, all I know is something needs to change and that needs to take place higher up.  It’s a vicious cycle, its insanity – the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.  This is just an all around sad situation, and it puts things into perspective so clearly, as @trillballins put it on Twitter:

Thoughts and prayers for the families of the victims of this whole fucked up mess.

PS – Fuck the people I’ve been seeing on Twitter using this as an excuse to push their religious agenda. I’ve seen multiple tweets about how if you’re gay you deserve this, essentially, one being from a Texas Lieutenant Governor.  For fuck’s sake be better people.

Double PS – Here’s a great Onion article on the situation

  1. Gunny,

People are not good or evil. People choose to do good or evil. All people are loved by God. Give thanks to The Lord for He is Good. His mercy endures forever!

I’m not surprised by DP’s tweet. It is scriptural, it is true, and its connotation is judgmental. He is also loved by God. He is misguided, as I am at many times.

    Much Love & Two Fingers,

    Big PUPpy

P.S. Lord Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me a poor sinner.

  2. Hey maybe Dan Patrick was referencing the killer and Not the victims! We all need to not jump to judgement for a tweet that could clearly be looked at either way! You just chose to see it as a negitive slam against the victims who were in a gay nightclub!
