Ohio College Football Recap: Bearcats Overcome Jitters, Ohio State Rolls and the Bobcats Lose a Heartbreaker
By: Alex Marcheschi
Somehow, someway, I have become someone who roots for OU, UC and OSU football. It’s actually pretty liberating, no hate in my heart for our state’s college football teams. Here’s a quick recap of the games with some video action. Enjoy.
Cincinnati 28, Tennessee-Martin 7
There wasn’t much to be excited about with the Bearcats victory. Honestly, the team just looked a little nervous to start the season. Looks like it’s going to be one of those years where we can’t trust the defense and can barely trust the offense (aka every year). Wouldn’t have it any other way in Cincy. Here’s the pick 6 that sealed the game. The Bearcats didn’t cover and the total went under.
Ohio State 77, Bowling Green 10
Had this game going on a laptop screen, but even on a tiny monitor, it was clear that JT Barrett is gunning for the Heisman. The kid is unbelievable, Bowling Green’s defense had no idea how to contain him, and I doubt the rest of the NCAA will figure it out. He set a school record last night with 7 TDs. The Buckeyes covered, and hit the over. Here’s one of his TDs below, all 7 can be found here.
Oh yeah, and this happened:
Texas State 56, Ohio 54
This may have been the first game of the season for the Bobcats, but the #MACtion was in mid-season form. This game was absolutely wild, with the over (59) almost being reached by each team in the game! The game was a pure shootout, answer after answer, triple OT, trick plays, you name it. Frank Solich has been coaching for half a century and he told this to reporters:
Here’s how Texas State won in the third OT, they ran a crazy trick play that ended up with the QB catching a TD.
In the third OT, you’re required to go for two, and they converted. Ohio answered the TD, but botched the snap on the two point conversion and lost.
This was the play of the game, though. In fact it was the Play of the Week. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for the play of the week among our three squads every week. The Bobcats snag the first.
Bobcat fans, get to know the name Papi White. Here’s another OU highlight from Jordan Reid, who has Chad Ochocinco as his Twitter background, so you know his footwork is on point.
OU lost the first one, but those who know Bobbies football know that anything is possible week to week. What a great opening weekend, many more to come. #RollBobbies
