Predicting the MLB Playoff’s Divisional Round: Cubs Got a Tough Draw

By: Tyler Dugan

“You can’t sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You’ve got to throw the ball over the damn plate and five the other man his chance. That’s why baseball is the greatest game of them all.” – Earl Weaver

August 1982–Oriole manager Earl Weaver had a difference of opinion with home plate umpire Ken Kaiser in the third inning of last night’s second game. Wearver was irate at ball and strike calls by the umpire, who took

Just a power move quote there. And the best part about it, its 100% true.

I was writing a baseball blog like 3 weeks ago, and procrastinated so badly, but I’m gonna hammer this one home. Im writing this during the Rangers Blue Jays game one, and the score is still 0-0, so my predictions are going to be completely valid.

First, the wild card games were flat out awesome. Blue Jays O’s was a helluva game. Both teams refusing to bunt was bizarre as can be. Just playing for the long ball, and Edwin finally delivered it. Giants-Mets was what everyone expected it to be. Thor vs Madbum was amazing. Madbum is just near impossible to beat in October.

Rangers v. Blue Jays

Yu Darvish

This is the matchup everyone wanted to see. Although through 2 innings nothing heated has really happened, these teams despise each other, and I love every second of it. The Blue Jays manager is the absolute worst. He looks like a piss drunk truck driver when he sits on the bench. He just rest his hat on top of his head, I just want to punch him in the face the entire game. I feel for the Rangers, so that is why I’m on their side. That 7th inning in last years ALDS was demoralizing. They take the lead on some bizarre play. Then they come out in the bottom of the inning, make 3 straight errors, and then Joey Bats pisses on a ball and hits it to the moon. It was a Bengal like collapse. This series will heat up when it gets to Toronto, their fans are rabid. Flat out crazy. I’m taking the Rangers in 4, Yu Darvish and Cole Hamels are too talented.

Indians v. Red Sox

Interesting series, the Sox lineup is loaded with young talent. Indians got a helluva pitching staff, and can bring in Andrew Miller to slam the door. Cleveland will be wild because they now think they are the city of champions, but I think this is a tall task for them. The Sox are going to start Price and Porcello. With Pedoria, Betts, Jackie Bradley, Benitendi, Bogartes, and “you know Big Papi.” *asian guys voice from the commercial.* That is a loaded lineup. Good luck. Think the sox win in 4.

Cubs v. Giants

mad bum.jpg

Tough draw for the Cubbies, win 100 games, and your reward??? You get to face Madbum and the Giants in an even year. The Cubs have one of the all time great lineups. Theo Epstein is the greatest GM in any sport, of all time. No questions asked. What he did with the Red Sox  was absurd, and he is doing it even better with the Cubs. With all the being said, I give the Cubs a 15% chance to win this series. Just a shitty thing to happen to them, but Madbum will pitch as many innings as his little heart desires, and the Cubs are just the Cubs. It wont happen this year. Giants in 5, Madbum will start game 5.

Nats v. Dodgers

My second favorite team going at it in this one. Obliviously if you have ever followed me on twitter you see my 3000 retweets about Bryce Harper, he truly is my favorite athlete. He just has it all, even tho he had a horseshit year. The fact that he is only 23 years old is wild. He is going to be so good for so long. I will root for him wherever he goes. Ok, I’m finished. I do believe the Nats will win this series. The Dodgers have been a little bit of a surprise. Julio Urias is 19 fucking years old, and is really starting to figure it out. NINETEEN. So he is a bright future on the mound for them. They still have Kershaw, and they have they have the future rookie of the year, Corey Seager. They are young and solid. But the Nats have Scherzer and Gio dealing. That is a great 1 2 punch. Daniel Murphy made an MVP case this year, and they have a bunch of other guys who have done it before. Bryce is going to hit his stride like he did in the 2014 playoffs. Dusty is going to be munching on that toothpick, Nats in 4.

Baseball truly has the best playoffs in pro sports. New teams, different story lines, walk off home runs, pitchers duel. Truly nothing better. You never know who is going to be there. Its the only sport right now where that happens. You know in the NFL that the Seahawks, Pats, Broncos are going to be the final four. Its stupid. I could bet my life that the NBA finals is going to be Warriors Cavs barring any injuries. Even in the college sports. Alabama, Ohio State are going to be somewhere around the end every year. College basketball, Kentucky and Duke. You just know. It makes it no fun. Baseball things change constantly. 2 years ago the Cubs were one of the worst teams in baseball. Now they won 100 games. The world series champs last year? Yeah they kept the same team, had no significant injuries, and didnt make the playoffs. The Sox were one of the worst teams in baseball last year. This year they arguably are the best team in the AL. It changes so fast. Every team really does have a chance. I mean shit, the Yankees are rebuilding?!?! They sold at the deadline. Just crazy. Everyone expected the Astros to be in the playoffs this year, and maybe even go to the world series, they sucked. The only sport where you never know. Rant over. God love baseball.
