If You’re a Music Fan, HBO’s ‘The Defiant Ones’ is in Must Watch Territory

If you’ve ever wondered how Dr. Dre, Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Tom Petty and many other megastars in the music industry got hot and stayed hot, HBO’s ‘The Defiant Ones’ is for you.
After watching the first episode of the four part documentary, I immediately became hooked on the series that centers around legendary music and film producer Jimmy Iovine. The series, which is chock full of never before heard stories and priceless gems of advice, begins with the details of Beats By Dre’s $3 billion sale to Apple and eventually slides into the production of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run”, Patti Smith’s “Because The Night” and Eazy E’s “Boyz In Da Hood”.
I’ll avoid going into further detail for the sake of spoilers, but I will give you some of the best quotes from episode one below. Enjoy, and if you must, steal someone’s HBO Go password.
“Make fear a tailwind, not a headwind.” – Jimmy Iovine
“When you’re trying to push boundaries, you need to surround yourself with people who believe in what you’re doing.” – Bruce Springsteen
“(Never get caught) breathing your own exhaust.” – Jimmy Iovine
“I’ve never met a mother with an ugly baby.” – DJ Yella
“You automatically think everyone is paying attention to your life…which is bull shit.” – Jimmy Iovine
