Xavier Kicked Off Big East Play with a Nice Road Win at Marquette
By: Craig James
Xavier kicked off Big East play with a nice road win at Marquette, 91-87. Marking their eighth straight win. With the Musketeers lofty ranking, expect opposing teams to give the Musketeers their best shot, and that is just what Marquette did. It was a back and forth contest and in the end Xavier’s free throw shooting put them over the top. The Musketeers went 6-6 from the foul line to close out the game. Xavier is the best free throw shooting team in the nation at 80.6%.
Ladies and gentleman that is going to win you ballgames. Especially since it seems that teams are in the double bonus with 15+ minutes to play in the half. Hey refs lets swallow the whistles for a bit whadya say?
Trevon Bluiett was his typical self, going for 23 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds. Trevon’s play so far this year has him in the thick of the National Player of the Year discussions. J.P. Macura did his best LeBron James impersonation and helped carry the Musketeers down the stretch, scoring 11 of his 15 points in the second half.
Xavier had five players score in double figures in the win. Xavier is 6-0 this season when that happens. This team is deep folks, real deep. Every player that stepped onto the floor against Marquette scored.
The new Big East conference is the best it’s been since the league was created. Villanova and Xavier are serious National Title contenders. Seton Hall, Creighton, and Marquette look like Sweet 16 teams, Seton Hall possibly Elite 8. St. Johns is much improved. It is going to be a tough year in the Big East. Xavier hosts DePaul at the Cintas Center on Saturday in their first home Big East game. Expect a blowout in this one.
P.S. For all you gamblers out there if you aren’t on the Xavier money train right now what are you even doing with your life?!?! Xavier is practically bankrupting Las Vegas right now. The Musketeers are the best college basketball team against Vegas so far this season. They are 11-3 against the spread and are 13-1 overall. Thanks to Chris Mack and company for paying my mortgage!
